Honestly, when tanks first came around, it was terrifying. They had engraved themselves in my closed beta mind as unstoppable killing machines, impossible to defeat. Over time though, I quite enjoyed it. It was just like the DUST trailers CCP had released before - infantry and tanks fighting side by side. I would find myself running across the map before ducking behind cover as a Madrugar comes my way, and the stealth made me feel like I was sneaking into some defended compound like some movie. The killing part? Well yes, I've died plenty to tanks. But not so more than anyone else. I was watching my brother tank the other day, and was astounded at some player's reaction to tanks. Popping out of cover to shoot at it with their light weapon (non-AV, may I clarify) before hiding again, doing so in a repeated fashion that allowed my brother to kill them. Why? Whenever I see a tank, I stay low, and continue to my objective. Generally with the tanks these days, someone in my team will have them, and then the tank will be dealt with.
On the subject of AV's, I was trying out my very own tank the other day before I was murdered by a Railgun Madrugar. So, as always, I pulled my trusty advanced swarm out and hunted it down. I never killed it, no, but I brought it down to low armour with each encounter, setting it ablaze and sending him running every time I caught up with him. Hell, I think that's balanced AV. A few more swarms coordinating properly, I'd have killed it. As it is, one guy can make a tank run for the hills (literally). Just don't shoot it with its hardeners on, yeah? Or is that not common sense.
Either way, I feel DUST is a lot more fuller now that tanks, and vehicles in generally are becoming as common as infantry is. I want to see it stay that way, and be developed into a more complete relationship where its infantry vs infantry, and vehicles vs vehicles, with each supporting the other in their own way.
Madrugar covers the open spaces of an objective, infantry fights and hacks, railgun Gunlogi kills Madrugar, swarms harass the Gunlogi enough for their own railgun tank to pull in.
So there's my rant over. Don't flame me too much, but if there isn't a problem with tanks, I'm afraid I haven't seen them yet.
Though tank spam is annoying, its funny seeing them running around knowing they can't hack anything
